As the weather starts to cool down in Sydney, my wanderlust minds starts planning a summer holiday to escape a mild Sydney winter. With every island destination that comes to mind – one of my absolute favourites is Mykonos, Greece.
Over the past quarter of a century, the low-lying, sun-drenched island of Mykonos in the Aegean has been considered one of the most elegant island holiday destinations in Greece. For years, the Cycladic island has welcomed the jet set, and anyone who likes to party past sunrise will adore Mykonos Town.
It’s the ultimate glamour island which sizzles style and reputation. The high-season mix of good-time holidaymakers, cruise-ship crowds which fill the beautiful blue and white of the Cycladic maze and the oh so chic cafes, bars and restaurants that line the uneven stone streets of Mykonos town. My four coolest and favourite luxury hotels in Mykonos set the bar.
Style: Contemporary coastal cool
Setting: Aegean beach-side seclusion
A beautiful, beachside boutique hotel on the most cosmopolitan of the Greek islands, Grace Mykonos is an intimate spa hotel that offers comfort and pampering, boasts stunning ocean views, and is dedicated to spoiling its guests.
Style: Martinis and minimalism
Setting: The Aegean Miami
This beachside boutique hotel in Mykonos Town offers sea-view serenity and contemporary coastal cool. Achingly hip and refreshingly chilled, Bill & Coo is the designer destination of choice for jet-set romantics. Its poolside lounge bar is a picture of glassy elegance, just made for mojitos and midnight seduction.
Style Sparkling: boho hangout
Setting: Perched between Paradise Beach and Paraga Beach
Housed in a cluster of white-washed stone buildings overlooking the Aegean Sea, boutique hotel San Giorgio Mykonos is a pared-down retreat for island hedonists. Flop in a hammock by the pool, explore the rocky shores of the private beach, then dance the night away under the starry skies – crashing in San Giorgio’s sleek boho rooms will feel like coming home.
Style: Rugged designer retreat
Setting: Tumbling Greek mountains
Boheme Mykonos hotel slaps delicious design flourishes and bold flashes of colour onto the lily-white simplicity of a traditional Greek hideaway. With a gently bohemian atmosphere, it sits on a serene mountainside overlooking the Aegean Sea, a dainty old port and the giddy excess of Mykonos Town.
